Dredging 2026

Tweed Sand Bypassing will soon commence dredging of the Tweed River Entrance. Dredging is expected to start in late March / early April 2026 (weather dependant). Sand will be dredged from the Tweed River entrance and delivered offshore of Bilinga/Tugun, Snapper Rocks, Duranbah and Fingal Beaches.

What are the details?

The image below shows a map of where the sand will be removed and placed. Although there are various areas where sand can be delivered, the exact location of sand delivery is calculated by analysing hydrographic survey information. Placement does not occur near Kirra Reef or Cook Island. Kirra reef has a placement exclusion area surrounding historical outcrops and Cook Island is surrounded by an aquatic reserve.
